Underwriting readiness for Daher Kodiak aircraft

Kodiak Insurance for KOPS Pilots

Kodiak underwriting depends heavily on mission. Personal travel, backcountry flying, amphibious use, humanitarian work, skydiving, and commercial operations do not present the same risk.

The underwriting view

Start with the mission, then build the Kodiak submission

The Kodiak's versatility is exactly why underwriters need operational detail. Runway surface, water operations, cargo, passengers, geography, commercial use, and remote support can change appetite and terms.

A strong submission pairs Daher-approved or recognized training with a precise description of where, why, and how the aircraft operates.

What underwriters may reward

No single item guarantees acceptance or pricing. Together, these details help an underwriter distinguish a prepared operation from an incomplete application.

01

Kodiak-specific training

Initial, IFR, recurrent, and mission-appropriate familiarization documented with current certificates.

02

Relevant operating experience

Turbine, STOL, backcountry, amphibious, mountain, and remote-area experience matched to the mission.

03

Defined operational controls

Runway standards, weather limits, loading practices, passenger procedures, and written decision rules.

04

Maintenance and support

Qualified maintenance, parts planning, inspection status, and support appropriate for remote operations.

05

Accurate use classification

Clear personal, business, humanitarian, skydiving, charter, or other commercial activity.

06

Realistic hull and liability structure

Agreed value, equipment, floats when applicable, and liability limits aligned with contracts and passengers.

Program access

The KOPS dividend is a specific exception

KOPS has publicized a separate training-based hull-premium dividend arrangement through Travers and 11 Aviation. Alexander does not claim access to that specific program. We can still present Kodiak training, maintenance, and operating evidence to the broader insurance market and pursue any independent carrier credits available for a qualifying risk.

Credits, dividends, eligibility, carrier appetite, and policy terms can change. Alexander confirms availability for the specific risk and policy term before representing a benefit as available.

Issues that can narrow terms

  • Describing backcountry or commercial missions too generally
  • Adding amphibious or special-mission use midterm without review
  • Training that does not match the intended operation
  • Assuming the KOPS dividend is available through every broker

Questions owners ask

Insurance and program access

Can Alexander offer the KOPS 10 percent hull dividend?

Alexander does not claim access to the specific KOPS, Travers, and 11 Aviation dividend arrangement. We can pursue other carrier terms and credits available through our independent markets.

Does this page imply KOPS endorsement?

No. It is educational content for Kodiak owners and operators.

Why is mission detail especially important for a Kodiak?

The aircraft can be used for very different operations, and runway, water, cargo, passenger, geography, and commercial exposures materially affect underwriting.

Can a personal-use Kodiak and a commercial Kodiak use the same markets?

Sometimes, but not always. Intended use, contracts, pilot structure, geography, and liability requirements can change market availability.
